As in previous years, Color Media Communications once again marked the traditional Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, within the Christmas Magic Festival at the Promenada Shopping Mall in Novi Sad
The Hanukkah candles are lit during the eight-day celebration of Hanukkah.
Hanukkah symbolizes the festival of light and recalls the miracle of 164 BCE when the lights in the Jerusalem Temple burned for eight times longer than they should have when they were most needed. During Hanukkah, typically celebrated in December, one additional candle is lit each evening. The middle candle (the ninth, central branch) is used solely as a helper to light the other eight.
The event began with a blessing for lighting the candles, after which the Ambassador of Israel to the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Mrs. Avivit Bar-Ilan, lit the sixth candle on the menorah at the Hanukkah celebration held at the Promenada Shopping Mall in Novi Sad. Following the lighting, the Hashira choir performed. Mr. Mirko Štark from the Jewish Community of Novi Sad was also present at the event.
Novi Sad residents and visitors enjoyed a unique Hanukkah celebration at the Promenada Shopping Mall as part of the Christmas Magic Festival, which runs until January 10, 2025.
