Facebook Page “Baština Bez Zaštite” Received the “Top 50” Award From “PC Press” Magazine

At the traditional “Top 50” awards ceremony of the “PC Press” magazine, the Facebook page “Baština bez Zaštite” received the award for the best in the “Best Facebook Page” category

The award was received at a ceremony at the National Museum of Serbia by Jelena Jahura, a member of the Working Group “Castles of Serbia: Protection of Cultural Heritage”.

“We launched this page in September 2020 in order to draw public attention to numerous buildings across Serbia that are officially under state protection but in reality – in a very poor condition. In addition to numerous castles and summer houses that are mostly neglected, there are also the birthplaces of famous people. For example, the birthplace of Novak Radonjić in Mol and Dr. Đorđe Natošević in Stari Slankamen – exist only on the website of the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Vojvodina, while in reality there are empty plots or ruins at that location, since the buildings collapsed on their own a few years ago due to lack of maintenance.  There are many such examples.

We invited members of this group, which now has over 4,000 members, to send us photos of examples of “heritage without protection” from their communities, so that we now have over 100 photo albums from all over Serbia showing buildings that are officially under state care, but are in a state of partial or complete neglect!

This initiative also gave rise to the Radna group “Castles of Serbia: Protection of Cultural Heritage” which was formed by the Government of Serbia in December 2020. Unfortunately, due to frequent changes in the Government and “other priorities”, the scope of this group’s work was very limited and most of the cultural and historical heritage in Serbia is still – without protection!” said Robert Čoban, president of Color Press Group and the creator of this project.
