The Gallery of Matica Serbian on the occasion of marking the European Year of Cultural Heritage at the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris is organizing an exhibition of Pictures of the Transient World. Relations between French and Serbian intimism.
The exhibition will be officially opened on December 5th at 19.00 and the audience will be addressed by: Tijana Palkovljević Bugarski, Director of the Matica Srpska Gallery, Radoslav Pavlović, Director of the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris, Asja Drača Muntean, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation Ministry of Culture and Information of RS and Dr. Dijana Metlić, author of the exhibition.
Exhibition of Pictures of the passing world. Relations between French and Serbian intimism present to the French public 20 works by renowned Serbian painters – Marko Čelebonović, Ljubica Cuce Sokić, Peđa Milosavljević, Nedeljko Gvozdenović, Ivan Tabaković and many other artists who accepted and redesigned the painting of French intimism.
Thanks to their travels, shorter and longer stays in France, Serbian artists transferred the spirit of intimacy into their perceptions of the world, the interior, the performances of their own characters and close circles of themselves. Their works are a response to the reality that was threatened by the Second World War and from which they retreated to the home as the only refuge. It is precisely because of the heat radiating from these scenes, the silences achieved by the chromatic balance and the calm game, intimacy exceeds the geographical, temporal, national, and any other established determinations.
The exhibition through pictures, texts and photographs shows multilayered connections between Serbian and French culture and talks about interweaving the life paths, thematic and artistic determinations and the fate of French and Serbian painters of the epoch of intimacy.
The author of the exhibition and the catalog of the same name (in Serbian and French) is Dr. Dijana Metlić, art historian and professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad.
The day after the opening of the exhibition, on December 6 at 11.30, a special professional interpretation and interview with museum experts and art historians from the museum and the University of Paris will be held, with the idea of getting acquainted with the creativity of Serbian artists, exchanging knowledge about intimate painting and the links between Serbian and French art. For the duration of the exhibition, expert interpretations of the exhibition in French and Serbian will be organized for the general public.
The realization of the exhibition was facilitated by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, and great support was given by the French Institute in Serbia, the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris, and the private owners of works of art.
