In a celebration of the Month of the Francophonie, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Belgrade organized a Conference on the work of the Moroccan Writer, Painter and Sculptor, Mahi Binebine.
M. Binebine is one of the greatest contemporary Moroccan painters and novelists. At first professor of mathematics, he quickly abandoned teaching to devote himself to painting, sculpture and writing with a first book published in 1992. He has since published ten novels.
The Stars of Sidi Moumen (Flammarion 2010, I have read 2013) has been translated into dozens of languages and adapted to the cinema by Nabil Ayouch (The Horses of God, awarded at Cannes).
Born in 1959 in Marrakech, Mahi Binebine moved to Paris in 1980 to study mathematics, and subject he taught for eight years. Then he devoted himself to writing and painting. Many of his novels are translated into different languages. He immigrated to New York from 1994 to 1999. His paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Guggenheim Museum in New York. He returned to Marrakech in 2002 where he currently lives and works.
