In the previous financial year, under favorable economic conditions, Gebrüder Weiss generated a temporary net turnover of 1.67 billion euros. That corresponds to an increase of 8.3 percent over the previous year (1.55 billion euros).
“We are very satisfied with the development of our business, the year was good, despite the high capacity utilization in all systems, we managed to maintain the quality of the service. Promises given to our clients have the highest priority, “said Wolfgang Senger-Weiss, chairman of the board of Gebrüder Weiss. In addition to digitization, Gebrüder Weiss continues to focus on investments in physical infrastructure. In 2018, € 50 million was re-invested. The share of own capital was maintained at a stable level of 58 percent, which guarantees maximum independence from credit institutions.
In 2018, Gebrüder Weiss experienced a generational change at various managment levels – from directors, through regional to branch management. Thanks to the systematic development of managerial staff, all new positions are internally assigned. “This is an excellent sign of the strength of the organization itself and corporate culture. In this way, we are committed to continuity, and with our team we are well armed to deal with the challenges of the digital future,” says Wolfram Senger-Veiss.
Road transport: perfectly overcoming obstacles
The road transport area again proved to be the backbone of 2018. The organization itself recorded an increase of 7.5% despite very intense competition. With a steadily growing demand-driven economy, all the obstacles associated with it, such as the lack of drivers, inadequate loading space and large oscillations in shipments, had to be overcome. “We have been able to do this thanks to our knowledge, awareness of quality and price, as well as the super-engagement of our employees,” says Wolfram Senger-Veiss. Digitalization tools help to improve planning, optimize processes and offer new communication opportunities.
Continuing the construction of branches on other continents and in Germany
In the area of air and maritime traffic, Gebrüder Weiss achieved turnover growth of exactly 12%. One year after the reorganization of the international network, in 2018, the company continued to invest in the development of its subsidiaries in Asia, the US and Germany, as well as in the construction of transpacific transport routes between North America and Asia. In addition to classic air and maritime services, Gebrüder Weiss offers its customers in the US and China more and more logistics solutions and land transport.
Further growth of the home delivery segment
Thanks to the growth of Internet sales, we also recorded a very positive development of the home delivery sector (B2C). Nearly 900,000 items of electrical appliances, households and furniture were delivered to final customers, and one third in Austria. This is why this logistics company has confirmed its leading role in the Austrian market. In addition to the delivery, according to the principle, two people manipulate “Gebrüder Weiss ” also performs installation and connection of the device with the buyer, and now in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and occasionally in Romania, the logistics company also has clients in the interior, electrical and construction industry .
