The Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Ambassador Sem Fabrizi, head of the Vojvodinian government, Igor Mirović, and the Chairman of the Executive Board of the EXIT Foundation, Ivan Petrović visited the OPENS zone at the EXIT Festival (which takes place at Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad from July 4th to July 7th) , where the campaign of planting trees in several municipalities in Vojvodina is being promoted.
The plan is to plant 10,000 trees, and, in order to do this, the campaign organizers will need the help of volunteers who have a responsible attitude towards the environment. “To date, more than 500 volunteers have applied to participate in the campaign, and we hope that this number will be even greater in the coming days and weeks,” Ambassador Fabrizi said.
“The European Union is very committed to protecting the environment and has already done a lot in that respect together with the authorities in Serbia. We have been implementing activities related to recycling, waste disposal, regulation of landfills, and now we have special activities in Novi Sad,” the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia said.
He added that environmental protection, besides being good for nature, creates new jobs, and that the EU is the largest donor in this segment, with 400 million euro.
“The provincial government has partnered with the European Union in promoting environmental protection and can learn a lot from European examples of good practice,” said the head of the Vojvodinian government, Igor Mirović
.
“We are promoting ideas that do not have an alternative in our lives; these are the ideas that must bring an overall change to country in the areas that concern us all,” Mirović added.
“This campaign appeals to young people interested in environmental protection in a rather creative way”, explained Ivan Petrović from the EXIT Foundation.
“Young people want to get involved if they get the right opportunity. We have big campaigns going on in Vojvodina, and that’s the reason why we are here tonight. We will recycle all plastic and cans at EXIT, while environmental topics are in the focus of this year’s festival campaign,” Petrović added
The guests of the EXIT Tree Zone then walked over the canvas that depicted treetops, thus symbolically launching the tree planting campaign in Vojvodina. Afterward, they visited other booths in the OPENS State of Exit zone and were acquainted with the work done by various youth organizations and other interesting activities that are carried out in this segment of the festival. To remind, Novi Sad has been declared the Youth Capital of Europe in 2019.
It is still not too late for the visitors of this biggest music festival in the region to visit the OPENS and Tree Zone, where they can apply to participate in the campaign which starts in autumn. Plus, the campaign volunteers will get the opportunity to win free tickets for EXIT 2020.
After the Festival, the canvas depicting treetops will be exhibited in Novi Sad and other towns with the aim of inviting citizens to join the campaign.
