Construction of “Kula 2” Wind Farm Begins with New Investment in Green Energy Worth 17.5 Million Euros
With a solemn ceremony in Štolc near Kula, the companies MK Group and Fintel Energija officially marked the beginning of works on the construction of the Wind Farm “Kula 2”. Wind turbines of the state-of the-art technology are being built near the first wind farm in Serbia, “Kula”, which was also opened by these companies in 2015. With a total investment of 17.5 million euros, the works are planned to be completed by the end of the year, and the Wind Farm to be put into operation in March 2023.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Zorana Mihajlović, PhD emphasized the importance of investments that contribute to the achievement of Serbia’s energy goals: “By adopting a new legislative framework in the field of energy, especially the first, special Law on the Use of RES, we created conditions for increasing new capacities for the construction of the wind farm “Kula 2” we see the concrete results of the law and the direction we have set for the development of energy. We are at the beginning of the energy transition and it is necessary to view RES as a pillar of energy, which will further improve the stability of the electricity system, despite all the obstructions we face. We are at a turning point for Serbian energy and we need to decide whether to allow the whole sector to decline or move towards development and modernization that is impossible without investing in new capacities. Increasing the percentage of RES in our energy mix will ensure sufficient energy, secure and stable supply in the coming decades. The essence of the Green Agenda is to be energy sufficient, ie to produce energy from our own sources for our needs, potentially for export, and at the same time to protect the environment and reduce emissions. Our vision of a green Serbia is achievable only if we all together pursue it. “The state, the public sector, private investors and citizens, because it is not a matter of one Ministry or Government, but a process that we will conduct together in the next few years and which will improve not only energy, but will affect economic growth and financial stability,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
General Manager of Fintel Energija, Tiziano Giovannetti, reminded that this company, together with MK Group, is a pioneer in the field of renewable energy sources and the most important independent producer of electricity in the Serbian energy market. “With three open and the fourth wind farm under construction of our joint investment in green energy projects from the wind, amounts to 163 million euros so far.” In this way, we provided 238 GWh of electricity per year for the needs of 59,000 households. We do not end here and we are already planning new ambitious projects, which will additionally position Serbia on the green map of this part of Europe “, said Giovanetti.
The General Manager of MK Group, Mihailo Janković, confirmed the further expansion in the field of renewable energy sources of both companies. “Together, we are developing projects of wind farms and solar power plants in Serbia with a total planned capacity of almost 1 GW, with an investment of over one billion euros in the next five years. This year alone, we have started the implementation of projects involving investments of 360 million euros “, said Janković and pointed out the contribution of these investments to achieving the goal of the Government of Serbia to increase the share of energy from renewable sources to at least 40% by 2040.
The “Kula 2” Wind Farm will supply the Serbian electricity network with 28.6 GWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the energy consumed by about 8,000 households. The partner of MK Group and Fintel Energija in this project is Erste Bank.
In the municipality of Kula, these two companies are also developing the largest agro-solar project in Europe and the first in the Balkans, which will confirm their leadership in the region when it comes to renewable energy sources (more information: www.mkgroup.rs/vesti/zvanicno-poceo-prvi-agrosolarni-projekat-u-regionu).
