Today, on the great feast of Transfiguration, Serbia remembers the great victory in the Battle of Cer during the Great War.
It was the first Allied victory against the much more powerful Austro-Hungarian army, which shows the tenacity of the Serbian people when fighting for their freedom.
On that occasion, many citizens of the Pocerina region where the battle was held, many visitors from other parts of Serbia, government and local officials, and some members of the diplomatic corps, visited Tekeriš Memorial to pay tribute to Serbian soldiers.
The Committee for Nurturing the Traditions of the Liberation Wars of Serbia by the Serbian Government organised a commemorative ceremony where the Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Darija Kisić-Tepavčević, representatives from the Ministry of Defence, Serbian Army, Cities of Loznica and Šabac laid a wreath in front of the memorial ossuary.
Nebojša Stefanović, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence has said that today is one of those days when we feel proud of the glorious battles and the great names of Serbian history when we remember the great victories of our army and the names of all our immortal heroes who gave their lives for the homeland.
Minister Stefanović finished with the words carved at the monument: “Your deeds are immortal! Glory to the heroes.”
