In the Cultural Centre in Kisač, two exhibitions of the author and famous fashion photographer Pavel Surovi, also the director of the Cultural Centre Kisač, were opened
The exhibition “Slovak Identity” was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, Maja Gojković, and the “Pavel Surovi – Mira Brtka Exhibition” was opened by Dalibor Rožić, a member of the City Council for Culture of the City of Novi Sad. The mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Djurić, opened the new ethnic club of the Kisač Cultural Centre, which also contains an exhibition gallery called “Kiss from Kisač”.
The exhibition “Slovak Identity” by the author and passionate collector Pavel Surovi from Kisač shows old Slovak hand-painted exhibits up to 200 years old collected in
Bačka, Banat and Srem, were installed in a large space in the Dr. Gallery. Ljudevit Miloš Mičatek in the Kisač Cultural Centre.
Simonida Stanković, multimedia artist, world music performer and arranger, president of the Society of Slovenian Cultural Heritage and president of the Society of Friends of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, gave a professional opinion on the exhibition of old painted furniture ” Slovak Identity”, which is owned by the collector Pavel Surov.
“For 8 years now, I have been coming to these multimedia and multispectral events and spectacles under the leadership and creative umbrella of Pavel Surovi. All the exhibits are rare in the whole of Europe and differ from all other Mitel European ones, as well as from furniture in Slovakia. The way our Slovaks, from Serbian Vojvodina, treated the furniture, which in the broad sense of some early bourgeois and aristocratic styles, including Empire style (Ampir), Biedermeier, wove their soul to overcome their models, which they succeeded in. Cabinets and chests contain symbols, which will not be seen so easily in the courts of Europe. It is this synthesis of European aristocracy and the other side of the Slavic spirit. Symbolism is a very important factor in Pavel Surovi as an artist, magician of photography and a designer and collector. Nothing that Pavel Surovi collected is by chance, it is taken because of its epoch, it is beautiful, it is colourful, and there are a lot of symbols here. Pavel succeeded not only with exhibitions but also with events because all those events are also multidisciplinary, they have several layers, it is an understatement to say that tradition unites and modern, there are more of those energies. Being a collector is a special profession. Many people who were great collectors were not yet great artists. It’s a rare combination. This is not a eulogy to Pavel, but it is a joy that a small place in Central Europe offers a conglomeration of miraculous events, and they are the result of summarizing all the above. Pavel Surovi managed to unify it and that is his specificity, you have the privilege that we all participate together in something very beautiful. It’s no wonder that the most famous Russian fashion designer, Slava Zeitsev, when he visited the Kisač Cultural Centre, said, “I’ve travelled the whole world and here in Kisač, I found the Slavic soul” – said Simonida Stanković, daughter of the world-famous Serbian painter Milić of Mačva.
The mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Djurić, congratulated the people of Kisač on the big jubilee – 250 years since the arrival of Slovaks in Kisač. “Also, we have today two exhibitions where we are currently located here next to the opening of a new ethnic club. Events like these exhibitions are woven into the title of “European Capital of Culture”. Cultural centre “Kisač” took a serious part in that project with a photo exhibition “Glory” of Pavel Surovi. We are implementing another important project – the adaptation of an ethnic house in Dr. Janko Gombara Street and explained that the renovation will continue in 2024 and 2025. Cultural heritage will be preserved in that area, and it will also be used to host various summer programs. I am proud that we all live together in harmony and enjoy the wealth of diversity, and it is the wish of all of us that Kisač, like other parts of Novi Sad, develop,” said Mayor Milan Djurić.
The exhibition “Pavel Surovi – Mira Brtka” was opened by Dalibor Rožić, a member of the City Council for Culture of the City of Novi Sad. Saying that he is truly honoured to be able to open this unique exhibition “Pavel Surovi – Mira Brtka”, which represents the continuation of the work of the Kisač Cultural Centre and Pavel Surovi, as the director and photographer of the three mentioned exhibitions “Corona”, “Tron” and “P.S. Mira Brtka”.
“The exhibition “Tron” by Pavel Surovi showed all his skill and availability, not only in our country, in the region but in Europe and much more widely, presenting the City of Novi Sad and Serbia, which is the result of the work of CC Kisač and the City of Novi Sad recognizes it as quality. Results CC Kisač are also the results of the City of Novi Sad. All your work and effort and infrastructure projects and program activities speak in favour of the thesis that you do your job in the best possible way. That culture is an important field of life, that connects people and strengthens the sense of belonging to the community and after all, it forms a new identity“, said Dalibor Rožić, a member of the City Council for Culture of the City of Novi Sad.
Director of KC Kisač, Pavel Surovi stated at the time that his wish was for Kisač to become the “cultural Mecca of the Slovak community”.
“Thanks to the City, the former mayor Miloš Vučević, and the current one, Milan Djurić, who continues with that support, the “Kiss from Kisač” facility has been completely reconstructed after 30 years. That space will, among other things, be used for receiving guests and delegations, and will also serve as an exhibition space but also for education“, said Serbian fashion photographer Pavel Surovi.
