With the beginning of the European Mobility Week, a new phase of EDISON eCity project was launched in Celje – one of the most important regional projects in the field of ecological transport.
The event, attended by numerous representatives of the economy from the region, along with government representatives of the government of Slovenia and the European Union, organized a regional business initiative, Samit100, in partnership with the local authorities Celje and Rotary districts from the region.
The EDISON platform was created in Slovenia in 2015 as a result of a humanitarian initiative when electric cars, the BMWi13 model, were introduced for the needs of children with disabilities in car rentals, thus establishing the first ecological sharing economy – one of the fastest growing global economic trends. After installing ten stations for powering electric vehicles in Slovenia, this initiative was presented at the Summit100 in Sarajevo, with the plan to introduce electrification of the road in the length of 2400km connecting all major regional cities, from Ljubljana through Zagreb and Belgrade to Skopje, Tirana, Priština, and then Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Koper, and in April this year, the project eBelgrade was promoted. Last weekend, the first results of the platform were presented and the eCelje phase launched, with which the EDISON project continues to connect within the region of Southeast Europe. Promotion of the new phase, in Celje, was also attended by European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc.
One of the creators and main drivers of EDISON project is Dr Iztok Seljak, President of the Managing Board of the Slovenian company Hidria, one of the leading European companies in the field of automotive technology, and the vice-president of the Samita 100 Governing Board.
“We are in an era of a major transformation of the society based on renewable energy sources and the sharing economy, and we see in the region this as a phenomenal opportunity to use together as a connected region a chance for rapid growth. EDISON project has been recognized today as one of the most important environmental transport projects in Europe, which is confirmed by the presence of Violeta Bulc today” said Iztok Seljak. “Edison from the region is making a green mobility laboratory and we can export successful solutions to the global market.”
