The conference Croatia Our Neighbo(u)r is the first cycle of the project “Serbia and its neighbours“, which will be realised during 2017 in Belgrade. Serbo-Croatian relations are considered to be very important for the stability in Southeast Europe. They reflect the fact that within the so-called Dayton quadrilateral the stability depends exactly on the best possible relations between the authorities in Belgrade and Zagreb.
However, they are still very much burdened by the legacy of war in former Yugoslavia. In this sense, almost every day there is more tension because of the fact that the political elite often use each other very sharp rhaetoric, leaning on the legacy of conflict. Relations between the Serbians and Croatians so are still very much burdened by positions of minorities, such as the remaining Serbs in Croatia, and the Croatian minority in Vojvodina/Serbia. Also, there are many unsolved problems related to the demarcation of the Danube basin. Moreover, the possibility of overcoming the long-term historical legacy of the armed conflict on the Croatian territory from 1991 to 1995 was discussed.
