Hagro!“ team has come up with an innovative solution that will, using sensors and light and temperature control software, help poultry farmers in the future to significantly reduce the chick mortality. Thanks to their idea, this team, made up of two programmers and two students of the Belgrade’s Faculty of Agriculture, has won the first AgTech hackathon in Serbia and the prize of 2,500 EUR.
Last weekend, the first AgTech hackathon in Serbia was held in Playground innovation center. The hackathon, on the topic of Digitalization of agriculture, was organized by Vip Mobile and Center for development of technological entrepreneurship ICT Hub, with ten excellent solutions competing for a prize fund of 5.000 EUR.
The first place and the main prize was won by team “Hagro!”, made up of two programmers and two students of the Belgrade’s Faculty of Agriculture. They won the hackathon with their innovative solution that will, using sensors and light and temperature control software, help poultry farmers in the future to significantly reduce the chick mortality. Team “Miće” won the second prize and the 1,500 EUR amount, while the third prize went to team “Psihomehaničar”, and the 1,000 EUR prize.
Janez Križan, one of the jury members and the Director of the Digital Transformation Sector in Vip Mobile, said that all 10 innovative solutions presented were excellent, and invited all teams to work on their ideas until December, when they will present them to the Vip leadership team and get the opportunity to gain additional support for their projects.
“The potential of cooperation of traditional industries with startups and IT entrepreneurs is huge and today’s hackathon has confirmed it. ICT Hub continue with that practice and in the upcoming period we will connect Serbian teams with the most successful companies in the areas of production, trade, distribution, agriculture and food production… In order to allow the innovation potential to realize as much as possible, with the goal of raising the competitiveness of the Serbian economy”, said Dejan Ranđić, one of the founders and the Director of ICT Hub.
One of the advantages for those who took part in the hackathon was the fact that agricultural expertise was not required. It was important that team members comprise knowledge and skills from IT and design together with business thinking, creativity and determination to develop a quality answer to a given challenge within 48 hours. AgTech was a perfect opportunity for innovative software solutions, in the form of a web or mobile application from the domain of agriculture digitalization. During the hackathon, the teams had top lecturers and mentors at their disposal, from the areas of agribusiness, programming, design and public performance preparations.
AgTech is one of the first steps in cooperation of Vip Mobile and ICT Hub, with the goal of opening Vip as a company to start-up community and technological start-ups. Vip Mobile has secured the prize fund, mentor support from the areas of agribusiness, programming and design, as well as great work conditions – food, drinks, inspiring space for work, fast internet and relaxation space.
