This year’s 51st Bitef will be held from September 22nd to September 30th in Belgrade. In the main programme, in the repertoire will be seven achievements of some of the most important theatre artists of today. Particular attention should be paid to the participation of Ersan Mondtag, possibly leading rising star of German theatre, who will be presented to the Belgrade audience with two plays. Additional charm to Mondtag’s arrival in Belgrade is the fact that this is his first appearance at a major international festival, which further gains importance to Bitef, affirming the Berlin director of Turkish origin.
The performance called Extermination by a young writer Olga Bach and produced by Konzerttheater from Bern in Switzerland, will close this year’s Bitef on the 30th of September performing at the National Theater in Belgrade. Radically changing the context of the drama in which three contemporary young people begin to try and abuse all liberties of modern Western society, Mondtag creates a kind of hallucinatory pastoral world, creating a distinctive trash poetry that is strongly critical of the modern world in which security is provided, and in fact all that is false, hypocritical, deeply rotten on the edge of the abyss.
