The escalation of rhetoric in the Western Balkan region is not contributing to achieving the European principles of reconciliation, good-neighbourly relations and regional cooperation, says European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijančić.
Commenting on the “latest tensions between Serbia and Croatia,” Kocijančić reiterated the EU accession process in the Western Balkans, including Croatia, was based on reconciliation, good-neighbourly relations and regional cooperation.
“The escalation of rhetoric is not contributing to achieving those principles, which are a commitment as well as an obligation of the entire region,” Kocijancic said in a statement to Tanjug.
Brussels’s official response to Serbian PM Aleksandar Vučić‘s letter pointing to unacceptable statements and actions in Croatia that are threatening good-neighbourly relations is still pending.
