This year marks the 500th anniversary of the death of Raphael Santi, painter and architect, one of the most famous artists of the Renaissance. The remains of the genius from Urbino, who died at the age of 37 in Rome on April 6, 1520, the same day of his birth in Urbino in 1483, rest inside the Pantheon in Rome following his own wishes. The epitaph in Latin inscribed in marble, made by Cardinal Pietro Bembo, writer and humanist, says: “Here lies Raphael, by whom Nature feared to be outdone while he lived, and when he died, feared that she herself would die”.
