Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković pointed out in a conversation with Ambassador of Italy Carlo Lo Cascio that Italy is one of the most important partners of Serbia.
Selaković emphasised that Italy is the second foreign trade partner of Serbia and a country that strongly supports our country on the path of European integration.
He pointed out the fact that as many as 1,789 active Italian companies with more than 26,000 employees operate in Serbia, saying that our country will strive to provide favourable conditions for continued support to Italian investors in the future.
The Minister pointed out that Serbia is interested in holding the fourth joint session of the governments of the two countries in Belgrade, which would provide additional impetus to cooperation at the institutional level and send a strong message to Italian businessmen to continue investing in our country.
He expressed gratitude to Italy for its continuous support of Serbia’s European path, but also for its commitment to open new chapters in the previous year, which once again showed Italy’s sincere support for the EU enlargement process.
According to him, for Serbia, it would be very important for Italy to actively advocate within the EU for defining the manner of applying the new methodology and valorising Serbia’s progress so far.
The upcoming visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia to Italy was also discussed at the meeting, and Selakovic expressing the expectation that during this year there will be a return visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Luigi Di Maio to Serbia.
