The number of international travel continues to grow at an incredible rate, transforming the economies of individual cities and countries, and people are encouraged to expand their aspects – whether travelling for work or fun.
Gathering data on trends in international travel for almost a decade, Mastercard presented the Entertainment Edition of its Destination Cities Index, ranking international destinations with the largest number of visitors who do not travel for work, but relax and have fun. Punta Cana is ranked first in this list of cities with more than 90% of guests in 2017 who did not come for work, by rather on vacation or on family visits. There are also few lesser known destinations that are popular among eco-tourists, history lovers, beaches and adventures.
A list of the top 10 cities each of which has a unique culture, but which connects the focus of tourists to relaxation and entertainment, are:
