In the organization of the Greek Embassy in Serbia, the Independence Day of Greece was marked by reception at the hotel “Metropol”. The meeting was welcomed by Greek Ambassador to Serbia Elias Eliadis, who said in his address that today Greece is a modern state based on the tradition of ancient democracy, and that it advocates stability and prosperity of the region, Tanjug reports.
Bearing in mind that his mandate in Serbia will soon expire, he especially thanked the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Minister Ivica Dacic, for cooperation in previous years and sincerely wished Serbia to become “a part of the European family of peoples.”
The reception was attended by numerous representatives of public and cultural life, including ministers in the Government of Serbia, representatives of the diplomatic corps, military officials, church dignitaries and others.
Greece celebrates its Independence Day in memory of March 25, 1821, when the struggle for the independence of Greece from the Ottoman Empire began. Greece recognized the great powers as an independent state in 1830.
