Last night, the exhibition titled “Milena Pavlović Barilli: One Artist, 15 Photographers – 30 Works of Art” was opened at the Požarevac Cultural Centre in the presence of high-ranking guests and locals.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Milena Pavlović Barilli Gallery in Požarevac and the Požarevac Cultural Centre, and with the support of the City of Požarevac, Color Media Communications continues to popularize famous Serbian and Yugoslav painters by engaging famous art and fashion photographers in promotion of their artwork.
Ljiljana Dabić, director of the Milena Pavlovic Barili Gallery, Duška Jovanić, the exhibition’s curator, and Saša Pavlović, Požarevac Mayor, addressed those present. The exhibition was officially opened by Danijela Vanušić, Assistant Minister of Culture and Information for Cultural Heritage Protection and Digitization.
On behalf of the Milena’s Home Foundation and the Milena Pavlović Barili Gallery, Ljiljana Dabić addressed the audience, saying that the gallery would celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. She also pointed out that Milena Pavlović Barili was the greatest cultural icon of the town of Požarevac and one of the greatest painters in Serbia, and according to many art historians, the greatest European painter in the period between the two world wars.
Danijela Vanušić, Assistant Minister of Culture and Information for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and Digitalization, who officially opened the exhibition, addressed the guests and said:
“The magic of Milena Pavlović Barili’s work has touched Rome, Paris, New York, and other global cities. Her talent put her at the very top of the painting world between the two wars, along with Šumanović and other artists who marked not only the period they lived in but also the entire cultural stage of our country. That is why the exhibition we are opening tonight is complementary to Milena’s research genius, because the exhibition’s curator Duška Jovanić chose 15 photographers who brought 30 works of art by Milena Pavlović Barila to life in the form of a remake.”
If you are a fan of modernism, come to Požarevac to peruse the exhibition and try to decipher the hidden meanings in Milena Pavlović Barili’s work, while at the same time, enjoy the visual presentation of contemporary photographers. The exhibition will be open until October 7, 2021.
