The Opera “Julius Caesar in Egypt” by George Frideric Handel

On Saturday, September 14, at 7 p.m. in the Synagogue in Novi Sad (Jevrejska Street 11), the festival “Baroque Music Days in Novi Sad” will be officially opened, organized by the Vojvodina Association for Early Music, with a concert performance of the baroque opera “Julius Caesar in Egypt” by Georg Friedrich Handel

On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the premiere of Handel’s opera “Giulio Cesare in Egitto”, which was first performed in 1724 at the King’s Theater in London, we are proud to present a concert premiere of this opera on historical instruments in Novi Sad and Belgrade, performed by the Belgrade Baroque Academy and the “New Trinity Baroque” ensemble. “Giulio Cesare” is the most famous and performed opera by one of the most important baroque composers and masters of the baroque opera genre, George Frideric Handel, which continues to fascinate the audience with its musical and dramatic layering for three centuries.

This opera takes us through a dynamic story of power, passion and political intrigue in ancient Egypt, while unforgettable arias like “Va tacito e nascosto” and “Piangerò la sorte mia” offer deep emotional moments for both the performers and the audience. This year, with the support of distinguished mentors from the Belgrade Baroque Academy, which has been operating for 11 years, we have the extraordinary honor of being joined by one of the world’s leading baroque artists, the Italian prima donna and contra-alto Sonia Prina, who worked as a vocal coach with our performers. Under the baton of Maestro Predrag Gosta, who will conduct from the harpsichord as Handel himself did, young talented international vocal soloists and a baroque orchestra on historical instruments will present you this
masterpiece in its full glory.

This concert also opens this year’s festival “Baroque Music Days in Novi Sad”, which has been organized by the Vojvodina Association for Early Music for a decade. Therefore, do not miss the opportunity to be a part of this unique musical celebration, where an evening filled with baroque opulence, emotion and superb performing arts awaits you. Tickets at a price of 1,500 dinars can be purchased through GIGSTIX, as well as before the concert itself.
