More than 80 candidates from 30 universities across Serbia have applied to this year’s competition for Sakura (Cherry Blossom) scholarships, which were, for the sixth consecutive year, awarded by Japan Tobacco International, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan.
Japan proved to be very inspiring for Serbian students and researchers who have signed up with very original ideas for research projects from a number of authorities, including the Japanese literature, martial arts, kitchen, law, economics, political science, diplomacy, education system and philosophy. “JTI has in 2011 launched a program of Sakura scholarships, which for six years has continuously contributed to the development of research in connection with Japan. I am very pleased to see continuous strong interest in this subject and are eagerly waiting for the final phase of this year’s scholarship recipients. I would like to thank JTI for their efforts and I am really confident that this programme will contribute to better understanding and friendship between Japan and Serbia”, said H E Juichi Takahara, the Ambassador of Japan.
